Winterberry Farm Primitives

This blog is now devoted to gardening with native plants with a focus on those species native to the east coast of the United States. With an MS in Agricultural Science from the University of Delaware and my love of native plants, I hope to help folks see the beauty and necessity of using native plants in your garden instead of exotic plants. Did you know that our native song birds and native insects are disappearing as our local environments continue to change?
For those who come to this page to see my 'Winterberry Farm Primitives' blog can now be found at http://winterberryfarmprimitivesshopblog.blogspot.com/ where I will post new additions to my online antiques shop at http://www.winterberryfarmprimitives.com/ and discuss various subjects about primitive antiques.

The sale tomorrow and a bathroom update!

Hi everyone!
It's another beautiful day here in Delaware with low humidity and great breezes! We just had about a week of hot, muggy weather - which is normal for a Delaware summer - and now it is beginning to feel like fall! I can't believe it! Three more weeks and the kids go back to school! I hope your summer has been a good one and, like me, you are looking forward to a great fall season. Soon it will be time to pick pumpkins, put up the corn shocks and get ready for Halloween, one of my favorite holidays! We started a tradition several years ago with the opening of our "Haunted Woods" in our wonderful tree-filled front yard - the neighbors "love" us at Halloween. We decorated like crazy and had so much fun watching the kids run through the "woods". In the last couple of years our son, nephew (both adults), my brother (an adult), and my four grandchildren (the youngest will be 11 this year)have taken over the "Haunted Woods" and it is now known as "The Terror Woods". The grandkids give up their candy collecting to be part of the "terror" and have a great time! We have parents that won't go through the woods - which now include a graveyard in our back yard -, kids that run screaming and come back for more, kids who run screaming while dropping their candy but don't care, and parents who run screaming faster than their kids! I can't wait! Wait...another one of those tangents!! There will be more later on "The Terror Woods" - I wish I had some scary music....
O.K! Back to the subject at hand!
I have finished setting up most of the items for sale in our first-ever announced update/sale and will flip the magic switch tomorrow evening at 5pm, so you still have time to send me your email address! We will announce the winner of the door prize on the website and here on the blog at about 8pm- so stay tuned! We will be presenting some of our "new" Primitive Needful Things" at that time and I think you will be amazed! I wanted to keep some of them and the artist (my hubby) said NO! Darn! There will be antiques, country items, folk art and primitives for sale, so come on by and take a look!
Another update at Winterberry Farm is the work we have done so far on our new bathroom! In an earlier blog I talked about the master walk-in closet and the beginnings of our renovation. We have almost finished the bathroom and I have posted some pictures of the work so far! The tiling is finished, the wainscoting is up and I will start on the mural this weekend! We have painted the wainscoting in Nicholson Store Red (another Williamsburg color) and I think it goes great with the tile! Once we finish the basics, the plumber will finish the plumbing and I can start moving in the final pieces. That's all for now - I will update the blog as I work on the mural - I will post pictures from start to finish - Wish me luck!
Before - a master closet...

After: Our new wall!

The new tub area:

Imagine the vanity here...

And finally...our little alcove that will contain shelves or a piece of furniture...
