Starting my fall decorating!

Hi everyone!
I have finally started my fall decorating! Yeah! The leaves are just starting to turn in the yard and the first of the local pumpkins are ready. I will be hunting out pumpkins, mums, gourds, and corn shocks this weekend to add to the other things I already have placed around the house. I usually use only dried or 'faux' items on my antiques and use the real pumpkins, gourds, etc around the house on the floors and the fireplace. I also decorate the front porch - at least until they start getting ready for the "Terror Woods"!
The guys have already started plotting out the route for the 'victims', I mean the trick or treaters who will be coming through this year's 'Terror Woods' and have been setting up the rehearsal times to practice for THE BIG NIGHT - Halloween!
I have been working to get the interior of the house decorated and I wanted to show you some of what I have done so far. The kitchen always gets decorated first and I do tend to go overboard sometimes! This is a corner of the kitchen where the pie safe sits and I think that the colors of the picture and the soft tones of the antiques look especially good when decorated for the fall.
I also love to add some 'faux' bittersweet and other things to the old cupboard in the kitchen that holds some of my redware crocks and jugs. Sticking some 'faux' bittersweet, preserved oak leaves and some little gourds in one of my old sap buckets adds a bit of color to a corner!






I also added a small bit of fall to the little red three drawer chest in the livingroom. I used to use real gourds and leaves but soon learned that wasn't a good idea! One area that is finished is the fireplace. One of the reasons that I wanted such a large mantel was the great statement that it makes during the holidays!




It's a lot of fun to decorate the mantel and I try to do something different every year. This year the chicken is running through the punkin patch and it looks like he is headed for the bin where I keep my feed pans! I guess he's hungry. Yes, I am rather crazy this time of year but the cool weather and sound of the crunchy leaves under foot when I go out to take pictures or weed or just sitting and drink a cup of tea in the backyard makes me feel so relaxed that I can let my imagination wander. Speaking of wandering! I was wandering through the Lemon Poppy Seed website the other day and came across Lucy's Lazy Dayz Primitives and she had this great Jack Pumpkin that I just had to have! He arrived yesterday and has already picked out the spot where he wants to sit and enjoy the Halloween celebrations this October! He really likes "Mrs. Pierce" and wanted to sit by her. "Mr. Pierce" is down in the foyer so he can't see Jack making 'google eyes' at her!
